1996 Ford ranger install January 3, 2009 Car fixer (Louisiana) Installed this on a 1996 Forder Ranger 2.3L with 5 speed trans. I must say, this is an excellent fit for the little Ranger! The kit is high quality and all the necessary parts are supplied. As many others have noted, the documentation is a little sketchy. Most inportant is the location of the tach wire and VSS (speed sensor) wires that you must attach to. The data for the Ranger wasn't correct, and until you find the right wires, the unit won't work. I strongly suggest a haynes manual or other shop manual be available for your vehicle in case the the included data for your particular vehicle isn't right. Also, you MUST have at least some experience working on cars or this kit will probably be too complicated for you. The vacuum servo is small and therefor, and the accelerate function isn't effective in 5th gear. It works fine for maintaining a speed though. All in all, the kit works great!
1992 Geo Metro Convertible with cruise control December 18, 2008 J. GRAVES (Illinois) I installed this item on my 1992 Geo Metro convertible. I took my time and read all of the instructions included. It wasn't that hard to install. I did add the vacuum canister since it is a 3cyl. engine. I did call the customer service a couple of times and they were very helpful. The system works great and it was worth every penny!!
Great item! December 16, 2008 Benjamin Dufay (Alabama) Cruise control works great! I installed it in a 98 VW and no issues at all. I had heard Audiovox had good customer service, but when I called them they were horrible. Do some internet searches and you can find whatever info you need. Great product for the price.
Works well December 6, 2008 Khris Stclair (Texas) Very versatile. Plenty of hardware for multiple installation options. Installed mine on a Honda Motorcycle. Works great.
Cruise Control December 3, 2008 David W. Niemela The unit works great - I installed it on my work car, a 97 kia sephia, 5spd manual tranny. I didn't hook up the speed sensor, just the tach wire (on my POS it's the yellow with white stripe going into the back of the instrument cluster). I set the pulse count to 5000 PPM and it seems to hold within 1MPH under most circumstances. I have a 45 mile rural commute, and this thing has really made it a lot easier. It took me a little under 4 hours to do a quality install. If you don't have a fairly firm grasp on electrical schematics or bracket building, don't try this yourself. On an older car with a coil that is outside the distributor, a tach feed is as easy as hooking to the negative side of the primary. On newer cars with the coil built into the distributor, or engines with multiple coils, it can be tricky to find a tach feed. To find a tach feed on my POS, I spent some time looking at schematics to find one under the dash. I got away with just hooking up a tach feed because with a manual transmission car, the engine RPM is a linear function of ground speed - or - the engine will turn a given RPM for a given MPH. If you have an auto tranny car, you'll have to hook into your Vehicle Speed Sensor, or install the included magnet kit. Years ago, I installed a magnet kit on the driveshaft of an old Volvo with an auto tranny, and it gave me nothing but headaches. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Long story short - this isn't a quick & easy thing to install, but if you install it correctly, it does seem to be a good little unit, and Amazon had the best price I could find anywhere.
